Refreshing & Nutritious Blueberry Smoothie
Given the fact that we are the blueberry capital of Canada gives us good reason to eat, drink and devour these tasty beauties whenever we get a chance. It is indeed the season now to indulge, so go crazy.
I use frozen bananas as my ice replacement for a boost of flavour and texture.
1 cup fresh BC blueberries
1 cup plain yogurt, I prefer Liberty brand
1/2 cup apple juice
2 frozen bananas, cut into chunks and peeled
1 teaspoon vanilla paste (available at Gourmet Warehouse)
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and puree.
Pour into a tall iced glass and enjoy.
If you have a sweet tooth, add 2 teaspoons honey or your favourite jam.
Alternatively, add a shot of rum or vodka for a weekend wake me up!
